The Patient Safety Handbook Selected as Book of the Year

CHICAGO, June 27, 2005 - Partnership for Patient Safety (p4ps) announced today the selection of The Patient Safety Handbook for a 2004 American Journal of Nursing book of the year award. The book, edited by Barbara J. Youngberg, JD, BSN, MSW, Vice President, University HealthSystem Consortium, and Martin J. Hatlie, JD, President, p4ps, contains forty-nine chapters and presents diverse perspectives by international experts on the ethical, leadership and managerial challenges now faced by the patient safety community.

“We designed this text to capture the wide range of perspectives and knowledge sources currently feeding into the patient safety movement,” said Hatlie. “It’s quite satisfying to see its value as a curriculum being acknowledged by the American Journal of Nursing.”

Reviewed by a panel of distinguished judges, The Patient Safety Handbook was selected in the nursing management and leadership category. The American Journal of Nursing, the oldest and largest nursing journal in the world, is the official journal of the American Nurses Association. The Patient Safety Handbook is published by Jones and Bartlett Publishers.
